Travel experience to learn about the ‘cult’ places of Naples, the Vesuvian area and the Sorrento coast following the common thread of the most beautiful nativity scenes and of the ‘Red Gold’.
Day 1 – The cribs in the old centre
Meeting point at the arrival terminal, transfer by the C4Y minibus to the hotel, where our operator will greet you. After the check in departure for the historic centre of Naples. In Piazza del Gesù and along the famous twisted alleyways, which run through the heart of the city, known as ‘Decumani’ and dating back to ancient timeswe will find an exceptional concentration of historic churches and monasteries (with a number of old cribs).At lunch we stop to taste a traditional pizza. To finish off, we take a look at San Gregorio Armeno, the famous street of artisans of shepherds and nativity scenes, and then we will visit the Duomo of Naples in honour of San Gennaro, which every year attracts thousands of faithful, eager to admire the miracle of liquification. Back to hotel in the late afternoon for dinner.
Day 2 – Naples at a glance
After breakfast we will have short C4Y minivan ride up to Vomero hill, heading straight for one of Naples’ most spectacular viewpoints. From the panoramic terrace of San Martino and the monastery of the same name we will be charmed by the rooftops and cupolas of the city. The entire Bay of Naples can be seen from here, not to mention the majestic Vesuvius in the distance and the historic Spaccanapoli street, splitting the city quite literally in two. Visit at the crib in the museum of the Monastry. Let’s have a ‘Neapolitan meal’. In the afternoon transfer to the hilltop area of Capodimonte: walk along the large homonymous Park next to the Royal Palace where we’ll find a monumental crib. Back to hotel in the late afternoon for dinner.
Day 3 – Archeology, cribs and the red gold of the Vesuvio
Breakfast in the hotel, then departure with the C4Y minivan towards Torre del Greco where we will visit the fascinating churches in the Vesuvian area, which contain signs of the eruptions of Vesuvius over the centuries and some famous cribs. Visit at a museum which contains rare collections of corallo masterpieces and cammeo jewels and where craftsmen show visitors how to craft them. From there a pause for lunch nearby the seacoast in front of the isle of Capri. The afternoon will be spent in the historical and lively heart of the city of Torre del Greco, a city that has been repeatedly destroyed by the eruptions of Vesuvius, and we will stop to visit the famous cribs in some churches that were destroyed and rebuilt after the 1794 eruption. Back to hotel in the late afternoon for dinner.
Day 4 – Pompeii between Mystic and Secular
After breakfast C4Y minivan departs for Pompei. Entering the Santuario della Beata Vergine del Santo Rosario,we will be pervaded by an indescribable sensation of peace, much like that of the gentle face of the Holy Virgin of the Rosario. Here we can admire another fascinating crib. Then, after lunch, we will visit the archeological site of Pompeii, an incredible testimony of Roman life, which gradually emerged in recent centuries from the darkness into which it had been plunged back in 79AD. View from the top of the excavations of Herculaneum and visit to the MAV.Return to the hotel for dinner.
Day 5 – Nativity scenes from Toledo to the seafront
After breakfast, meeting with the guide and transfer by C4Y minivan for a nice stroll for shopping along via Toledo with its noble palaces. Visit at Maschio Angioino, Castel Nuovo, one of the most important castles of the city, still standing proud above the docks overlooking the of Naples. A short visit to the Royal Palace (where is another historical crib) in the wide Piazza Plebscito. Then, after a ‘street food’ lunch, crossing the square and the old neighborhood Santa Lucia, we will continue to the seaside to admire the imposing and legendary Castel dell’Ovo. Back to hotel in the late afternoon for dinner.
Day 6 – Nativity scenes of the Sorrento coast
After breakfast C4Y minivan departs for Costiera Sorrentina famous for their wonderful lemons and landscapes. First stop in Vico Equense where one of the most enchanting cribs in Campania is kept. Located in a natural cave, the crib is a journey that allows visitors to immerse themselves completely in a Bethlehem revisited with a wealth of details by the master artisans of cribs. From here, the tour continues to Sorrento: a stroll along the winding lanes of Sorrento, an ideal way to try out typical products or to find interesting souvenirs. We will stop for lunch in a typical restaurant in the nearby Villa Comunal and in Corso Italia full of shops where we will visit churches, cribs up to to the main square, with its imposing cathedral in the Romantic style. After a long day, back to the hotel for dinner
Day 7 – ‘And then we are off to see the stars…’
Breakfast at the hotel and transfer by minivan to the Astronomical Observatory, the first in Italy, and have a glance at the stars and / or the catacombs. 14.00 pm return to the hotel and transfer to the transport terminal.
