Accessibility features

This tour has been created by accessible travel specialists Reisen Erleben, and every structure, location and accommodation has been evaluted for it’s accessibility features. Please note that Germany is a very wheelchair friendly country, but not every single place is perfectly accessible, especially the ancient towns and villages.

Cobblestones are often found in the old towns in particular, so we will try to drop you off as close to the respective sights as possible. Nevertheless, it may be an advantage if you have some experience handling cobblestone surfaces. If you want to visit churches and castles, please note that not all areas here are barrier-free due to construction etc. Either way, we will advise you beforehand whenever possible. Due to their location, you will find uphill and downhill slopes on both the Moselle and the Rhine.

Regarding the river cruises, depending on the weather and the water level of the Rhine, the jetty may be a little steeper.

  • Manual wheelchair users
  • Power chair users
  • Slow walkers
  • Parkinsons friendly
  • Hearing impaired

Day 1 Arrival in Frankfurt

Welcome to Germany! We will pick you up at the meeting point of your arrival terminal directly after your flight. After getting on our barrier-free van, we will take you to your hotel in Frankfurt.

Once you have settled in, you’ll have the rest of your day in Frankfurt to yourself. If you feel up to it, you may decide to explore the city on your own. We are happy to recommend some places of interest for you to visit.

[Transfer time: 20 min]

Day 2Frankfurt

After breakfast, we will visit the famous Römer (City Hall): this former patrician house with its impressive three-gabled roof has served as Frankfurt’s city hall since 1405. It continues to be the seat of the city’s lord mayor to this day. The majestic River Main is only few metres away, offering you the opportunity of a river cruise with fabulous views of the skyline of “Mainhattan”. After taking in the riverside views, we’ll drive past the famous museum embankment before leaving Frankfurt on our way to Heidelberg.

[Transfer time: 1 hour] Breakfast included

Day 3Heidelberg

Did you sleep well? We will pick you up after breakfast and then drive through the old town of Heidelberg. A special 90-minute tour of the old town is available upon request. Later, we will head to the famous castle of Heidelberg. Due to renovation work currently being done on the castle itself, we’ll be able to visit the castle gardens and surroundings only. Here, you’ll have the chance to take a break and enjoy the beautiful views from the castle surroundings. Next, we’ll leave Heidelberg and the Neckar River and head to Traben-Trarbach along the Moselle River for the next two nights.

[Transfer time: 2.5 hours] Breakfast included

Day 4Traben-Trarbach

Good morning from the beautiful Moselle River! Did you have the chance to taste some of the fine local wines? You most definitely should!

Today, we will start with a drive to the “Saarschleife” (“Saar Loop”) along the German-Luxembourgian border. Here, you’ll be amazed at the fantastic views from above the forest along the Saar River. After enjoying these amazing views, we’ll head off to Germany’s oldest city – Trier.

After arriving in Trier, you may choose to take a tour (upon request) or, alternatively, explore the city on your own. Make sure not to miss the “Porta Nigra”, or “Black Gate”, the world-famous former city gatehouse, constructed by the Ancient Romans. It is believed that the building and the gate were erected around 180 AD. In the late afternoon, we’ll take you back to your hotel in Traben-Trarbach.

Day 5Koblenz

We’ll start the day with a visit of a mediaeval wine cellar. You’ll naturally have the chance to sample some of the wines on offer, but hopefully not too many, because from here we’ll be heading off to one of the most famous destinations on our tour, the “Deutsches Eck” (“German Corner”) in Koblenz, where the Moselle and Rhine River come together. You’ll start your visit of this famous location from the vantage point of a ropeway over the River Rhine.

[Transfer time: 1.5 hours] Breakfast and dinner included

Day 6Boppard and Rüdesheim

After breakfast with fantastic views of Koblenz and the “Deutsches Eck”, we will bring you to Boppard, where you will head off on a sightseeing cruise on the River Rhine to St. Goarshausen and the fabled Loreley Cliffs.

During the cruise, you’ll be gazing upon the famous Rhine River Valley and its many mediaeval castles. We will then pick you up in St. Goarshausen and drive you to the Loreley Visitor Centre. Afterwards, we’ll take a short drive to the wine town of Rüdesheim, scenically situated directly along the River Rhine and home of the famous “Drosselgasse”, a unique and very romantic laneway lined with pubs, shops and wine bars. If you like, we’ll also drive you to the “Niederwald Memorial”, located high above Rüdesheim and offering picturesque views of the surrounding area. In the late afternoon, we will leave the River Rhine and take you back to Frankfurt.

[Transfer time: 2 hours] Breakfast included

Day 7Back to Frankfurt and home

After your last night in Frankfurt, we’ll take you back to Frankfurt Airport for your return flight. Depending on your flight departure time, you may also decide to explore Frankfurt’s city centre on your own.
