Experience the beauty of Sri Lanka on a 10 day tour which will take you from the golden sands of Negombo to the rolling hills of tea country, via the iconic Golden Triangle and scenic city of Kandy. With stunning scenery, amazing wildlife and a rich cultural history, you will understand why Sri Lanka is called the ‘Pearl of the Orient.’
The tour is run by Walkers Tours, a Sri Lankan tour operator with 50 years experience, and it has been planned for travelers with mobility impairments with Access the Globe, specialised agency from the UK with 30 years experience of travel in Sri Lanka. The tour transport is air conditioned, carbon neutral and is wheelchair accessible with UK and European safety fittings.
The vehicle for our tour is wheelchair accessible with European Standard fittings to ensure safety and comfort whilst travelling. Your guide and driver will ensure that you experience as much of the country as possible.
The tour can be adapted for diabetic travelers with special menus and with always available information on nearby pharamacies and medical facilities for any emergency.
It is also suited for visually impaired travelers as Sri Lanka is a multisensorial experience for all, and if needed an assistant can be provided for all or part of the tour at a separate fee, to accompany the traveler/s.
A Sign Language interpreter is not always present on site but we can certainly look for one, let us know which language you would like and we will search for one.

On arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport you will be met by our guide and be taken to your beachside hotel in Negombo for rest and relaxation.
After breakfast you will be taken to Anuradhapura to explore the well-preserved ruins of this ancient capital city. You will also visit the Munneswaram Hindu Temple at Chilaw which features in the Hindu epic ‘The Ramayana’.
Overnight stay at Habarana.
After breakfast you will be driven to Polonnaruwa, another former capital of Sri Lanka in the 10thcentury AD. It is one of the best planned archaeological relic cities in the country. For 80s music fans, its beauty was used as a backdrop to film scenes for the ‘Duran Duran’ music video Save a Prayer in 1982.
You will then be taken to Sigiriya Rock, a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 meters from the jungle. The rock can be climbed but wheelchair users can visit the wheelchair accessible on-site museum.
Overnight stay at Habarana.
After breakfast you will start the drive to Kandy, visiting the standing Buddha statue at Aukuna on the way. The drive to Kandy gives amazing views of lush forests, hills and waterfalls. Photographers will love this drive!
You can go to a cultural show in the evening and see the many dances, costumes and music which depict the history and culture of the island.

The day will be spent in and around Kandy. Our experienced guide will take you to the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth) which houses one of Lord Buddha’s teeth.
You will then be taken to Pinnewela Elephant Orphanage where you can see elephants bathing and feeding. The elephants here have been abandoned when young and well looked after.
Overnight stay at Kandy.
After breakfast, the morning will be spent at Perediniya Botanical gardens. The gardens cover 150acres of trees, lawns and exotic plants from all over the world. An electric golf cart is available for visitors with mobility problems.
You will then start the drive to Nuwara Eliya, climbing through forests, meandering valleys and the tea ledges filled with tea pluckers. A visit to a Tea Estate will enable you to see, smell, taste and touch the tea at every stage of the production process and get an understanding of why certain teas taste as they do.

In the morning you will depart from the train station at Nuwara Eliya for Ella. Since the train is not wheelchair accessible, if guests want they can drive straight to Yala if preferred. This train journey is one of the world’s most beautiful train rides, scything through bridges, tunnels and lush greenery. Your van driver will meet you at Ella train station and take you to your hotel at Yala National Park.

An early morning start is recommended so you can see Yala wildlife wake-up. Among its more famous residents are leopards, majestic elephants, sloth bears, sambars, jackals, spotted dear, peacocks, and crocodiles. After lunch you will return to your hotel at Yala and overnight stay at Yala
After breakfast you will be driven to the historic fort city of Galle to wander the ramparts and winding streets in the company of our guide as he recounts the fascinating history of this city.

After breakfast you will leave your Galle hotel and head to Colombo, stopping off on the way to visit a turtle conservation hatchery and a traditional mask making workshop and museum where you will learn about the cultural history of Sri Lankan Arts & Drama.
